Do you need supplements?
Food comes first in my practice. It's the foundation of healing skin from the inside out. But even a nourishing diet sometimes needs backup.
Many everyday factors can quietly drain your nutrient stores or throw your gut out of balance. These include stress, poor sleep, certain medications, antibiotics, and restrictive diets. Chronic skin concerns like eczema, psoriasis and acne are often linked to what's happening in the gut, from inflammation to imbalances in the microbiome. The right supplements, used thoughtfully, can help support the healing process while we address the root cause.
Which supplements are right for me?
There's no one-size-fits-all answer, and that's the point. Taking a handful of supplements because they worked for someone else can waste money and sometimes do more harm than good.
I believe in testing, not guessing. One of my favorite tools is the GI-MAP, a comprehensive stool test that gives a detailed picture of your gut. It looks at your microbiome balance, possible infections or overgrowths, digestion and markers of inflammation. Because skin and gut health are so closely connected, these results often reveal important pieces of the puzzle. Your results, along with your health history and goals, guide a supplement plan built specifically for you.
For parents: Children's needs, doses and product forms differ from adults'. Please check with me before starting supplements for your child so we can choose what's safe and appropriate for their age and size.
How to choose high-quality supplements
Not all supplements are created equal. In the United States, the FDA doesn't review or approve dietary supplements for safety or effectiveness before they're sold. Manufacturers are responsible for making sure their products are safe and accurately labeled. That means a product may not always contain exactly what the label says, or it may contain ingredients it doesn't list. (Learn more from the FDA here.)
My standard is simple: I only recommend brands that use third-party testing to verify the purity, potency and quality of their products. These are the brands you'll find in my Fullscript store, so you can feel confident in what you're taking.
Not sure where to start?
Let's figure it out together. Book an appointment and we'll talk through your symptoms, discuss whether testing like the GI-MAP makes sense for you, and create a plan to support your skin from the inside out.
